Construction is complete on the $8 million staff accommodation project at Gympie Hospital. The 24-bed staff accommodation facility was designed to help attract and retain vital health workers to Gympie Hospital. The investment is part of the Miles Government’s Building Rural and Remote Health Program, an initiative established to improve infrastructure critical to the delivery of health services in rural and remote communities.
Sunshine Coast Health Senior Director Capital, Assets and Infrastructure, Andrew Leggate explained how the location of the accommodation, just across the road from the Hospital, would make it very efficient for those workers staying there. The modern, purpose-designed accommodation includes laundry and kitchen facilities for short-term use by Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff. The building also has disability access and sustainable design elements including energy efficiency.
Director of Nursing and Facility Manager, Deanne Mitchell said she was thrilled to see the building complete and is looking forward to welcoming health workers to the hospital and supporting them in the facility. Staff are expected to start staying in the accommodation from late January.
