Hospital grant scheme supports up and coming researchers

SCHHS staff across the health service were invited to apply for the Study, Education, Research Training Fund (SERTF), which is a joint funding initiative with Wishlist.

SCHHS Chief Executive Dr Peter Gillies says the grants are aimed at supporting Departments and Service Groups to develop and implement their Research Strategic Plans.

“The SERTF-Wishlist grant scheme gives practical, hands-on assistance to experienced, early career and novice researchers in a range of tasks and activities, which directly results in improved planning and services for our health service,” Dr Gillies said.

Wishlist A/CEO Brendan Hogan said research within our local health service continues to drive innovation in healthcare and improve patient outcomes.

"Wishlist is proud to be associated with SERTF in support of five research projects this year to support local clinical researchers," Mr Hogan said.

"These grants encourage advancement in healthcare and Wishlist readily supports projects which will directly benefit patients and families in our region. This year particularly benefitting children, allied health and renal patients."

SERTF-Wishlist offer research funding to:

  • provide support to individual clinician researchers (including medical, nursing, allied health, and health practitioners)
  • assist clinical departments and their service groups to develop their research plans and capability
  • develop researcher competitiveness when applying for state/national grant funding opportunities.

Dr Gillies is proud to announce the successful applicants for this round of research funding:

  • Dr Lizelle Weber, Neonatal Director, awarded $48,222.83 to develop and implement a research capacity building plan for neonatal services.
  • Dr Gemma Turato, Executive Director Allied Health, awarded $49,549.00 to build capacity and capability to conduct clinically relevant research, and translate research findings into clinical practice.
  • A/Prof Nicholas Gray, Director, Renal Department, awarded $50,000.00 to improve the core research culture of the renal department through education and skills training, thus building research capacity.
  • Dr Clare Thomas, Director of Paediatrics, awarded $48,684.84 to develop and implement a strong, sustainable, local research agenda and a strategic plan to build research capacity and capability within the paediatric department.
  • Katie Healy, Director Education & IPE, awarded $49,974.00 to establish a research strategy to build and sustain a strong research agenda in practice education that leverages skill across the Sunshine Coast Health Institute partners.
