Sunshine Coast Health's Public Health Unit are managing a confirmed case of Measles in a person who resides at Sunshine Coast and has recently returned on a flight from Vietnam.
The person visited only a few sites while infectious:
- Flight VJ083 on Wednesday, 4 December from Vietnam to Brisbane
- Brisbane Airport on Wednesday, 4 December 2024 between 2230 and 2359hrs
- Uber pick up from Brisbane airport to Sunshine Coast on Wednesday, 4 December 2024 before midnight
- Sunshine Coast University Hospital Emergency Room on Friday, 6 December 2024 between 1830 and 1900hrs
Sunshine Coast Health is in the process of contacting all persons who are at high risk of developing Measles.
Anyone who visited these venues during the specified periods may have been exposed to the disease and needs to look out for symptoms.
The symptoms of measles include high temperatures, cough and a runny nose followed by a red spotty rash and sore, watery eyes a few days later.

- Measles is a very infectious disease that is spread by coughing and sneezing. Symptoms usually start 7-10 days after the contact with the infected person but can sometimes take as long as three weeks.
- Anyone who develops symptoms of measles should seek medical care. Wear a mask and call ahead to make sure you can be isolated from others.
- Persons suspecting of having the disease should be tested, advised to isolate, and notified to the Department of Health immediately by calling 13HEALTH.
- Healthcare professionals should be alert for measles in patients with fever and rash, particularly those who have recently returned from overseas or attended a listed exposure site during the specified period.
- Offer free measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine to people born during or after 1966 who do not have documentation of having received two doses of measles-containing vaccine. Vaccinate all individuals who are unsure of their vaccination history, regardless of Medicare status.
- There is no need to check measles serology prior to vaccination.
