A new maternity service will ensure women on the Sunshine Coast have access to more choice when it comes to the location for the birth of their baby.

Since the Miles Government’s announcement of the Publicly Funded Homebirth service at the Sunshine Coast in November last year, there have been several women express keen interest in the new service.

The program is being co-designed with the Sunshine Coast Health women’s and children’s team, representatives across the health service, Queensland Ambulance Service, and most importantly - mums and maternity consumers.

The new service will be offered to women who meet agreed clinical criteria and live within a safe travel distance to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and Sunshine Coast Health is taking expressions of interest now for the second half of 2024.

If you are considering expressing interest in the Sunshine Coast publicly funded homebirth service our information article will help answer some commonly asked questions.

Women can express their interest in a home birth by talking to their GP or sending an email to SC-MGP@health.qld.gov.au.
