Accessing interpreter services
Interpreters are free and you can use their services 24 hours a day.
Your interpreter can help:
- by being with you in person
- on a video call
- over the phone.
You can ask for an interpreter for your next appointment. Your doctor may also ask for an interpreter when they make a referral for you to go to hospital.
You can get after hours and on call emergency services at the hospital by:
- pointing to the interpreter symbol at the front desk
- pointing to the Auslan symbol at the reception desk.
You can ask for a Queensland interpreter card that you can show when you're using a government agency. This card lets staff know that you need an interpreter in the language printed on your card.
You can ask for a Queensland interpreter card by emailing MAQ@dlgrma.qld.gov.au.
